Product details

Tinuvin® 477 by BASF is a remarkable product with the following characteristics:

Chemical Basis and Physical Form: It is a hydroxy-phenyl-s-triazine UV absorber in liquid form. It contains 18-20% 2-methoxy-1-propyl-acetate.

Appearance and Properties: It appears as an orange-brown liquid. It has a density of 1.15 g/m3 at 20°C, a boiling point of 146.4°C, and a flash point of 42°C. The kinematic viscosity at 20°C is 2100 cps.

Performance Features:

High UV-A Absorption: It has a high extinction coefficient in the UV-A range (320-390nm), which means it can effectively absorb ultraviolet light in this range. This is crucial for protecting substrates and materials that are sensitive to UV-A radiation.

Excellent Thermal and Photo Stability: It shows excellent thermal stability and photo permanence, making it suitable for coatings that are exposed to high baking temperatures or extreme environmental conditions. It can maintain its performance over a long period of time, meeting the long-term durability requirements of high-performance decorative and industrial coatings.

Minimal Interaction: It has minimal interaction with metal catalysts and amine crosslinkers, ensuring that it does not interfere with the curing process or the performance of the coating system.

Application Areas:

Wood Coatings: It is suitable for outdoor wood coatings and penetrating finishes, such as long-oil alkyd clear and colored systems, to protect the wood from UV damage.

UV Curable Coatings: Can be used in indoor solvent-based and UV-curable wood coatings, waxes, and wood protection products.

Plastic Coatings: Applied in plastic coatings for PC, PMMA, PET, sheets, films, bottles, and packaging to enhance the UV resistance of plastics.

Other Applications: Also used in vinyl coatings (such as displays, linings, and tarpaulins), UV-blocking varnishes for printed materials (metal, cardboard, paper, laminates), glass coatings, and glass bonding layers.
