Safety protection knowledge
1. Eye protection
If you have a lot of laboratory work to do, buying a pair of safe glasses is worth it. Or wear eye protection or goggles over regular glasses, and contact lenses are prohibited in the laboratory. If medication splashes into the eyes, emergency measures must be taken.
2. Wearing and dressing
Work clothes should be worn in the laboratory. Also, do not wear slippers or sandals.
3. Instruments and equipment
In general, if you do not know the function of an instrument or device, do not attempt to use them. Improper use of expensive instruments such as vacuum absorption pumps, rotary evaporators, compressed gas cylinders, etc. can lead to damage or experimental failure, and more seriously, accidents.
Before installing experimental instruments, check whether the glass grinding mouth is stained with fragments or debris. Before adding drugs for reaction, it is necessary to check whether all instruments used are clamped, fixed, and installed properly.
4. Handling of drugs
Chemical drugs are extremely dangerous due to their toxicity, corrosiveness, flammability, and explosiveness. It is best not to use open flames in organic chemistry laboratories where conditions permit. To heat the reaction mixture or solvent, it is best to use a water bath, oil bath, electric furnace, or electric heating jacket. If a gas lamp is needed, be sure to check if there are any flammable liquid openings around before igniting the gas lamp. Similarly, when transferring or dumping flammable liquids, it is also necessary to check for any open flames in the surrounding area. The vapor pressure of organic solvents is generally higher than that of air, so do not pour liquids, especially flammable solvents, into sewers or drainage ditches at will.
