Extraction method of cardanol

2024-12-25

Cardanol is a natural phenolic compound extracted from cashew nut shell liquid.
CAS No.100-51-6
Molecular Formula: C21H32O
Cardanol
Source:
Cardanophenol mainly comes from cashew nut shell liquid. Cashew is a tropical nut. During the cashew processing, the cashew shell accounts for about 25% - 30% of the weight of the whole cashew. Cashew nut shell liquid is the main component of cashew nut shell, with a content of up to 20% - 30%. Cardanophenol is an important component of cashew nut shell liquid, accounting for the main part of cashew nut shell liquid.

Extraction method
Solvent extraction method:
This is a commonly used method. Taking advantage of the solubility of cardanophenol in certain organic solvents (such as ethanol, acetone, etc.), cashew nut shell liquid is mixed with organic solvent, and after stirring, filtering and other operations, cardanophenol is dissolved in the organic solvent, and then the organic solvent is separated and recovered by distillation and other methods to obtain cardanophenol.
Supercritical fluid extraction method: Supercritical carbon dioxide is a commonly used supercritical fluid. In the supercritical state, carbon dioxide has good solubility and permeability. Cashew nut shell liquid is contacted with supercritical carbon dioxide, and cardanophenol can be extracted by carbon dioxide. Then, by changing conditions such as pressure and temperature, carbon dioxide and cardanophenol are separated to obtain pure cardanophenol. This method has the advantages of high extraction efficiency, high product purity and no pollution, but the equipment cost is relatively high.
