How to make paraffin wax?

2024-12-06

I. Extraction from Lubricating Oil Fractions Obtained by Crude Oil Distillation

  • Solvent Refining: Firstly, crude oil is distilled to obtain lubricating oil fractions. Then, solvents are used to refine the lubricating oil fractions to remove impurities and unwanted components.
  • Solvent Dewaxing or Wax Freeze Crystallization: Next, the refined lubricating oil fractions undergo solvent dewaxing or wax freeze crystallization. Solvent dewaxing involves adding specific solvents to reduce the solubility of wax components in the solvent, causing them to precipitate out. Wax freeze crystallization, on the other hand, involves lowering the temperature to cause the wax components to crystallize and precipitate at low temperatures.
  • Press Dewaxing: The mixture after solvent dewaxing or wax freeze crystallization undergoes press dewaxing to further remove wax components.
  • Deoiling and Refining: Finally, the wax paste obtained from press dewaxing undergoes deoiling to remove residual oil. Afterward, further refining is carried out to obtain paraffin wax products that meet the required standards.

II. Fischer-Tropsch Process

The Fischer-Tropsch process is a chemical process that converts carbon monoxide and hydrogen into hydrocarbon compounds. Through this method, a mixture of paraffin hydrocarbon compounds can be synthesized. Then, low-molecular-weight fractions are removed by distillation, followed by hydrogenation and activated carbon filtration treatment to ultimately obtain paraffin wax products.

III. Production from Oil-Containing Wax

Sweating or Solvent Deoiling: Firstly, oil-containing wax undergoes sweating treatment or solvent deoiling to remove the oil content.

Hydrogenation Refining or Clay Refining: Next, the dewaxed wax undergoes hydrogenation refining or clay refining to further improve its purity and quality. Ultimately, paraffin wax products that meet food-grade requirements are obtained.

IV. Precautions

During the production process, strict control over the quality of raw materials and production process conditions should be implemented to ensure the quality and performance of the final products.

The melting point, hardness, and other performance indicators of paraffin wax products should be adjusted and controlled according to specific requirements.

When using paraffin wax, attention should be paid to its safety and environmental protection to avoid causing pollution to the environment and harm to humans.

In summary, there are various production methods for paraffin wax, and appropriate process routes can be selected for production based on raw material sources and specific requirements.
