Product details
Irganox® 1076 by BASF is a highly efficient, non-discoloring, sterically hindered primary phenolic antioxidant stabilizer. Here is its detailed introduction in English:
Chemical composition and properties:
Chemical name: β-(4-Hydroxyphenyl-3,5-di-tert-butyl) propionic acid n-octadecyl ester.
Molecular formula: C35H62O3.
Molecular weight: 530.86 g/mol.
CAS number: 2082-79-3.
Appearance: It is available in three forms - white powder, white to slightly yellowish pellets (FD), and white granules (FF). The melting point is in the range of 50 - 55 °C.
Solubility: It is soluble in organic solvents such as benzene, chloroform, and ethyl acetate, but has very low solubility in water.
Performance features:
Good compatibility: It shows excellent compatibility with a wide range of polymers, including polyolefins (such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and polybutene), engineering plastics, styrene homo- and co-polymers, polyurethanes, elastomers, adhesives, and other organic substrates.
High thermal stability: Protects organic substrates against thermo-oxidative degradation, providing long-term thermal stability to the materials.
Low volatility: Has a relatively low volatility, ensuring its effectiveness within the material over a long period.
Good light stability and color retention: It has good light stability and can effectively prevent discoloration caused by light and heat.
High resistance to extraction: Exhibits high resistance to extraction, which is beneficial for applications where the material is exposed to various environments.
Applications:
Plastics and polymers: Widely used in the plastics and polymer industry, such as in PE, PP, PS, polyamides, polyacetals, ABS resins, PVC, and synthetic rubbers to prevent thermal oxidation degradation.
Oils and fats: Can be used in oils and fats to prevent their thermo-oxidative aging.
Coatings and adhesives: Applied in coatings and adhesives to enhance their stability and durability.
Usage and dosage: The typical dosage of Irganox® 1076 is in the range of 500 - 2000 ppm to endow the substrate with long-term thermal stability. However, the optimal dosage may vary depending on the type of substrate, processing conditions, and the required long-term thermal stability.
