Tinuvin ® 171 is a light stabilizer from BASF. It belongs to the class of liquid ultraviolet absorbers of hydroxyphenyl benzotriazole. The appearance is a yellow transparent viscous liquid that is easily soluble in various solvents. Suitable for solvent based coatings and thermoplastic PUR coatings and other materials. Combining with hindered amine light stabilizers can enhance the performance of varnish. It can protect materials from UV damage, suppress issues such as loss of light and cracking, and is widely used in multiple fields to enhance the weather resistance and service life of products.

Chemical structure and composition: It belongs to the class of hydroxyphenyl benzotriazole liquid ultraviolet absorbers, with the chemical name 2- (2H-Benzotriazol-2-yl) -6-dodecyl-4-methylphenol, molecular formula C ₂₅ H ∝₅ N ∝ O, and molecular weight 393.56g/mol.
Physical properties: The appearance is a yellow transparent viscous liquid, with a melting point of about -56 ° C and a density of 1.07g/cm ³. It has the characteristics of easy solubility in various solvents, easy emulsification in water-based adhesives, and low volatility at high temperatures.
Application areas:
In terms of coatings, it is suitable for solvent based coating systems, including automotive coatings, general industrial coatings, wood coatings, and coil coatings, as well as hindered amine light stabilizers (such as Tinuvin) ® When used in combination with 292, 249, or 123, it can enhance the performance of the varnish, suppress or delay the occurrence of problems such as loss of gloss, cracking, discoloration, foaming, delamination, etc.
Other materials: can be used for thermoplastic PUR coatings, rigid plasticized polyvinyl chloride, PVB, PMMA, PVDC, EVA and other materials, as well as latex, wax, adhesives, styrene homopolymers and copolymers, elastomers and polyolefins. In the field of photography, it is suitable for color paper and can protect dyes and colorants from UV damage.
